Abstract

This study aimed to describe the objective condition about how teaching English at junior high school in Jambi, Indonesia, this study is focused on designing lesson plan by the teacher, teaching activities conducted by the teacher, and evaluate the student progress in learning English. In this study, the researcher used multiple case study and analyze it descriptively. The researcher collected the data through interview. The finding of this study, showed that the lesson plan is important and their design it based on the latest curriculum-K13, syllabus and the student needs. Then, teacher apply the teaching activities based on the lesson plan, there are three activities of the teaching; opening, main, and closing activities. For main teaching activities, the teacher uses several strategies that suitable with teaching learning material and their classroom condition. The teacher also used various media to support teaching activities such as Microsoft power point, videos, pictures, colorful marker and etc. Next, evaluate students’ progress in learning English, teacher use kind of assessment to evaluate the student like observation during teaching learning process in the classroom, giving quizzes, oral and written test and using portfolio to collecting assessment data.
