Abstract
Safitri Angelina Bella 2022. Need analysis of tourism students in learning English at vocational high school in Jambi city. Thesis. Magister of English Education Program. The University of Jambi in Academic Year 2021/2022. The first Supervisor is Failasofah, S.S., M.Pd., Ph.D. and the second Supervisor is Dr. Nunung Fajaryani, S.Pd., M.Pd. The purposes of this research were to analyze the needs of tourism students at vocational high school Jambi City in learning English. The current research employed descriptive survey design. In collecting the data the researcher distributed questionnairein three parts, Part 1 is about students’ background, part 2 is about students’ needs in learning skills of English and part 3 about target needs of tourism major. The questionnaire was adapted from Dahbi (2016) and modified a syllabus for grade XI K13. 35 Eleventh grade students of tourism major at a vocational high school in Jambi city participated in this research. From the first questionnaire about learning need, the researcher found that their needs in learning English were that they can read, write, speak, and listen in English well in the field of tourism and second questionnaire about target needs in the future career. From second questionnaire researcher found that target need in future career is conversation with others it means their need is a lot of speaking skills. The results of the research showed that the needs of the tourism students of vocational high school in Jambi City is specific materials in tourism.
