Abstract
The purposes of this research are to describe the types of figurative language based on the Perrine theory (1969) and the contextual meaning of the figurative language in the lyrics of Miley Cyrus` songs. Five selected songs from Miley Cyrus were used as the objects for the data source in this research. The design of this research is descriptive-qualitative. This research used a documentation method to collect the data. In analyzing the data, the steps by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014) have used such as data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that there are eight types of figurative language found in this research, they are simile, metaphor, metonymy, personification, hyperbole, paradox, symbol, and irony. The singer used these types of figurative language to describe experiences, emotions, or abstract concepts in a stronger way than using literal language, this can help listeners deeply understand the overall meaning of the song.
