Abstract
In classroom interactions, sometimes we can encounter misunderstandings between teacher and student or among students. According to Grice (1989), cooperative ideals can lead to uncooperative conversations and misunderstandings regarding the information communicated. In line with that theory, the present research aimed to explore the violation of the maxim that happened in conversation interaction between teachers and students, and students among students. In this research, a descriptive qualitative research method was employed to answer the research questions. Hence, the interaction occurred naturally without any intervention from the researcher. Based on the results of this study, the researcher observed that some students and teachers violated the maxim in the EFL classroom interaction. Several recommendations have been proposed by the researcher for further research
