Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the direct influence of professional competence, work environment and laboratory facilities on the performance of Biology lecturers at PTKIN throughout Indonesia. Apart from that, it also analyzes the indirect influence of professional competence, work environment through job satisfaction on the performance of Biology lecturers at PTKIN throughout Indonesia. This research uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. Research data was tested using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the help of the SmartPLS application (Version 4). Sampling refers to the theory of Krejcie and Morgan (1970), with a sample of 159 Biology Lecturers. The research results show that (1) professional competence has a direct effect on performance by 37,9%; (2) the work environment has a direct effect on performance by 27,9%; (3) laboratory facilities have a direct effect on performance 29,9%; (4) Job satisfaction with performance was 28,3%; (5) professional competence has a direct effect on job satisfaction by 32,1%; (6) work environment has a direct effect on job satisfaction 22,2%; (7) laboratory facilities have a direct effect on job satisfaction by 32,2%; (8) professional competence indirectly influences performance through job satisfaction by 42,5%; (9) the work environment indirectly influences performance through job satisfaction of 43,9%; and (10) laboratory facilities indirectly influence performance through job satisfaction of 48,1%. The novelty in this research is a model that is predicted to have an impact on improving lecturer performance, namely the servant leadership variable. With professional competence, work environment, laboratory facilities, high job satisfaction supported by supportive servant leadership will have an impact on improving performance. It is hoped that this research can be used as a basis for making policies/programs to improve lecturer performance by Study Program Chairs, Deans and Chancellors at the level of Indonesian Islamic State Universities. In addition, it can contribute to increasing understanding of the factors that influence the performance of biology lecturers and provide input for the development of better policies and programs in higher education institutions.
