Abstract

This research aims to examine the influence of teacher communication patterns, politeness in teacher language, information technology competency, and teacher learning strategies on the basic literacy of high school students in Jambi City. This research uses a quantitative survey approach. The population in this study was 755 teachers. The sampel was determined based on the Krejcie & Morgan tabel, namely 254 teachers. The scales used to collect data are communication patterns, language politeness, information technology competence, learning strategies, and basic literacy. Research data was tested using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the help of the SmartPLS application (v.4.0). The research results show that: 1) there is a significant direct influence of communication patterns on learning strategies; 2) there is no significant direct influence of language politeness on learning strategies; 3) there is a significant direct influence of information technology competency on learning strategies, 4) there is a significant direct influence of communication patterns on basic literacy, 5) there is a significant direct influence of language politeness on basic literacy, 6) there is a significant direct influence of information technology competency on basic literacy, 7) there is a significant direct influence of learning strategies on basic literacy, 8) there is a significant indirect influence of communication patterns on basic literacy through learning strategies, 9) there is no significant indirect influence of language politeness on basic literacy through strategies learning, 10) there is a significant indirect effect of information technology competence on basic literacy through learning strategies.
