Abstract

NASYWA SALSABILA 2025, Investigating English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Students’ Anxiety in Reading Comprehension. Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2024/2025. The first supervisor is Dra. Radiatan Mardiah, M.Hum. The second supervisor is Dr Sri Wachyunni, SS, M.Hum., MA. Key words: English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students, foreign language reading, anxiety, reading anxiety, reading comprehension, coping strategies. This research aimed to investigate EFL students’ anxiety in reading comprehension in academic contexts and strategies used to overcome it. The site of this research was one of public university in Jambi. The subjects for this research were 10 students from 1st semester who experienced reading anxiety in reading comprehension. This research employed a qualitative method study with case study approach. The instruments used in this research were interview. The result of this study showed that 1) All participants of this study felt anxious and had difficulty in reading comprehension due to personal factors, material features, and procedural factors. 2) To overcome their anxiety, all participants had their own ways to overcome it, such as self-relaxation and self-preparation.
