Abstract

This research explores the experiences of introvert practicum teachers in teaching English, focusing on the challenges they face, their preparation, and the strategies they implement. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five female participants who completed a teaching practicum program in elementary and junior high schools as part of Program Asistensi Mengajar (Teaching Assistance Program) under the MBKM program. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that introvert practicum teachers encounter several challenges: there are classroom management challenges, lack of confidence in delivering materials, challenges in building relationships, and emotional struggles. Despite these challenges, the participants employed various preparation methods. There are seeking feedback from teammates and mentors, teaching script, observation, rehearsal before teaching, and mental readiness before teaching. They also used strategies to support teaching activities, including authoritative approach, digital-based teaching strategies, the implementation of icebreaking, the personalized approach, and group-based activities.
