Abstract

ABSTRACT Prihartini, Galuh. (2019). Developing Supplementary English Reading Materials based on Jambinese Folktales for Eight Grade of Junior High School. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University in academic Year 2018/2019. First Supervisor: Dr. Sri Wachyunni, S.S., M. Hum., M.A, and Second supervisor: Melati, S.Pd., M.CC. Keywords : Supplementary English Reading Materials, Jambinese Folktales, ADDIE Model. The researcher develop supplementary English reading materials to supplement the main textbook entitled “Interactive English 2” for the eighth grade of Junior High School students, published by Yudhistira 2016 in regular class SMP N 3 Kota Jambi. The method of this study was Research and Development (R & D) to develop an educational product. In this study, the researcher used Branch’s ADDIE models (2009) instructional design approach. ADDIE model consisted of 5 phases. They are analysis, design, develop, implement, and evaluate. However, the researcher did not conduct the implementation step because the researcher only focused on designing and develop the materials. In evaluation the material, the researcher with some experts, discussing some mistakes which is need revising and to make better material. Providing materials with picture series which close to students’ life might help students to understand reading texts. To fulfil the need, the researcher develop supplementary English reading materials which closed to students’ life in order to increase their local wisdom. All the materials are about narrative texts of Jambinese folktales. Therefore, this situation conducted the stories like The Origin of Jambi, Putri Rainun and Rajo Mudo, Kelingking and Rang Kayo Hitam. In conclusion, the researcher hopes to the further researcher can implement this English supplementary material in order to examine the result and make it become the final product of English supplementary reading materials.
