Tiara.Ardilla.Tama.2017. Students’ difficuties in learning English speaking skill at SMAN 5 Jambi. Thesis, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University. First supervisor: Reny Heryanti, S.S, M.Hum and second supervisor: Susanah, S.Pd, M.Sc Key words: Perception, Speaking skill, Difficulties This research Students’ difficulties in learning English speaking skill at SMAN 5 Jambi. The objective of the study is to find out students’ difficulties in learning English speaking skill. The design of the research is by using quantitative method with survey research design. The subject of this research is the Students’ (Science class) at SMAN 5 Jambi. The data of this research were collected by using questionnaire. The item for the questionnaire were adapted from Khampreted(2012) it has 20 closed statements, the questionnaire were distributed to 93 respondents, the result showed that students have problem with their confidence, the students afraid of making mistakes while speaking English. They also felt nervous and worried when speaking English. In aspect of pronunciation and vocabulary, they have difficulties in completing the sentences. They confess that they want to speak like native. Unfortunately, they do not have good pronunciation they also have problem in grammar. This research suggested that the students should solve their own problem in learning English, they may read English books and articles to overcome their vocabulary problems. They may also practice with their friend to practice their pronunciation and speaking skills, the most important point is that the students have to be confidence to speak English.
