Abstract
Red sealing wax palm root has secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins which act as antioxidant compounds. Antioxidants are needed by the body to overcome and prevent oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is caused by an imbalance between the number of free radicals and the antioxidant system, resulting in the formation of degenerative diseases. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of the extracts, fractionate, subfraction and positive control (α-tocopherol) using the DPPH method with five concentrations. The results of the antioxidant activity test were analyzed using the One Way ANOVA method and continued with the Duncan test. The results of the antioxidant activity test showed that the extracts, fractionate and subfraction had antioxidant activity. Based on the result concluded that the extracts, fractionate and subfraction of red sealing wax palm root have secondary metabolites that function as antioxidants.
