Abstract

Undergraduate students must fulfill several criteria to obtain a bachelor's degree at the university level, including writing a thesis. Because the thesis is their first academic research, undergraduate students must be guided in a process called thesis supervision. This supervisory relationship involved students as supervisees and lecturers as their thesis supervisors. This research aimed to investigate undergraduate thesis supervisors' experiences during supervision for EFL learners, focusing on their challenges and the strategies they used to overcome those challenges. This study utilized a qualitative case study with eight participants interviewed semi-structured on-site and via Zoom meeting. The interview identified two factors of challenges, internal and external. The study also revealed that participants applied three strategies: self-management, giving assistance, and communication and technological support.
