Abstract
Kata Kunci : Kepayang, Media Tanam, Air ABSTRACT Kepayang (Pangium edule Reinw.) is a type of plant which is spread across Malaysia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Mikonesia, Melanesia and is a type of plant which has a very wide distribution in Indonesia, in the Sumatra region itself the distribution of kepayang is located in Sarolangun Regency. Kepayang (Pangium edule Reinw.) is a Multi Purpose Tree Species (MPTS) plant because all parts of the plant can be utilized. Kepayang itself has a double effect, which is known as the multiplier effect, which means it is a hardy plant that functions to prevent erosion on critical lands, and is planted as a protective tree and greening in river watersheds. The use carried out by the community is not commensurate with the conservation carried out for kepayang plants. To increase the success of planting, special treatment is needed such as improving the growing media which requires other materials to improve soil properties, so that it can produce better growth. One of the things you need to pay attention to when cultivating kepayang is the plant medium. It is best if the plant media used is easy to obtain, has economic value and is able to support growth and provide sufficient nutrients, air and water for the plant's needs and in accordance with the criteria for the growing location of the plants to be cultivated. Another factor that needs to be considered in cultivating this plant is the availability of water. . The availability of groundwater is one of the factors that plays a major role in plant growth and production. Too little or too much water can have a negative impact on plant growth. Apart from being determined by the nutrient content, it is also influenced by the level of water availability and watering frequency. This research was conducted at the Educational Forest and Nursery Laboratory of the Forestry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Jambi University. This research was carried out for 3 months starting from January to March 2023. This research used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors that were examined Planting media (M) which consisted of 4 levels, namely: M0 = Top soil + Fertilizer Chicken Coop + Sand by volume (1:1:1), M1 = Sub soil + Chicken Manure by volume (1:1), M2 = Sub soil + Chicken Manure + Sand by volume (1:1:1), M3 = Sub soil + Chicken Manure + sand by volume (2:2:1). Watering frequency (P) consists of 3 levels: P0 = once a day up to field capacity with a volume of 80%, P1 = once every 2 days up to a field capacity with a volume of 80%, P2 = once every 3 days up to a field capacity with a volume of 80%. Each treatment was repeated 4 times, so there were 48 experimental units, each experimental unit had 5 seeds, so in total there were 240 seeds. The results of the analysis of variance using the Duncan's Multiple Range Test showed that there was no interaction between the planting media and watering frequency for all observed variables. The single influence of the planting medium had a very significant effect on the variables height, crown dry weight, root dry weight and root length, but had no significant effect on the variables diameter and number of leaves. The single effect of watering frequency had a significant effect on shoot dry weight, but had no effect on the variables height, number of leaves, diameter, root dry weight and root length. The planting media treatment of sub soil + chicken manure with a ratio of (1:1) was not significantly different from top soil + chicken manure + sand with a ratio of (1+1+1). The watering frequency treatment of once every 3 days gave a response that was not significantly different from once a day for the growth of kepayang (Pangium edule Reinw.).
