Abstract
Background: Betel nut seeds have been studied to contain tannin bioactive compounds that are known to be efficacious as antibacterials. One important parameter in determining the quality of bath soap is the amount of foam produced. The surfactant used in making solid soap is SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) which is a type of surfactant that can produce a lot of foam. This study aims to determine the effect of SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) concentration on the physical quality test of solid soap preparations and determine the best SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) concentration in making solid soap based on physical quality tests and antibacterial tests. Method: Solid soap preparations from areca nut infusion are made 3 formulas with different concentrations of SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate). The parameters observed are physical quality test (pH, foam stability, moisture content) and antibacterial test. Result: The results showed that the higher the concentration of SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) used, it will affect the physical quality in the form of foam stability test, namely formula 3 with the highest SLS concentration produces a lot of foam and the most stable foam stability, and moisture content test, which is in the formula with the highest SLS concentration, produces hard and durable solid soap. The best formula is formula 3 (F3) with a total plate value of 38, but does not exceed the positive control total plate value (Dettol) with a total plate value of 248. then followed by formula 2 (F2) with a total plate value of 88 and formula 1 (F3) of 197. Conclusion : The effect of adding SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) to solid soap infusion of betel nut as a foaming agent is found in formulation 3 SLS (1.75%) followed by formulation 2 SLS (1.5%) and formulation 3 SLS (1.25%).
