Abstract

Barbie is a film by Greta Gerwig that proclaims Barbie to be “most certainly a feminist film”, and it has frightened some male pundits out of their wits. The purpose of this study is to explain the feminism that portrayed in the characters. The purpose of this qualitative research is to explain speech act can portrayed the feminism in Barbie movie. This study uses George Yule’s Theory. In collecting data, researchers used several steps, namely data collection by watching films, reading scripts, identifying data, and reducing data that is less relevant. The first result of this research is to explain feminism values that empowerment, gender equality, and independence portrayed in speech acts consisting of direct speech and indirect speech.
