Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi pengalaman dan hasil peserta lomba bercerita, berfokus pada pemahaman masalah yang mereka hadapi, strategi yang mereka gunakan untuk mengatasinya tantangan, dan potensi dampak partisipasi terhadap pengembangan keterampilan berbicara oleh pelajar EFL di Universitas Jambi. Lokasi penelitian ini adalah Universitas Jambi dengan dua mahasiswa semester empat dari tahun ajaran 2023-2024 di Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan a penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan wawancara semi terstruktur untuk pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan permasalahan dan strategi dalam lomba bercerita Pembelajar EFL dan dampaknya terhadap peningkatan keterampilan berbicara. Permasalahan yang dihadapi peserta seperti a kurangnya kosa kata, kecemasan, dan teknik berkembang. Tantangan-tantangan ini diatasi melalui strategi seperti meningkatkan kosa kata, mengadaptasi suara, pengendalian diri, dan mencari bimbingan, didukung oleh langsung dan strategi pembelajaran tidak langsung. Terlibat dalam kontes ini mendorong perkembangan signifikan dalam keterampilan berbicara, meningkatkan kepercayaan diri, dan memperdalam pemahaman tata bahasa dan kosa kata. Apalagi mendongeng kontes berkontribusi terhadap pertumbuhan peserta sebagai pembelajar EFL dengan kemampuan bahasa Inggris yang mahir dan kritis keterampilan berpikir, meningkatkan kompetensi komunikatif dan pengembangan pribadi mereka secara keseluruhan. Kata Kunci: Berbicara, Pembelajar EFL, Pengalaman, Lomba Mendongeng This research aimed to identify the experiences and outcomes of participants in storytelling contests, focusing on understanding the problems they encountered, the strategies they employed to overcome these challenges, and the potential impact of participation on their speaking skills development by EFL learners at Universitas Jambi. The site of this research was Universitas Jambi, with two fourth-semester students from the 2023-2024 academic year in the English Education Department. This research employed a qualitative study with a descriptive qualitative approach. The researcher used semi-structured interviews for data collection. The results of this research indicated problems and strategies in storytelling contests for EFL learners and the impact on the enhancement of speaking skills. Participants faced problems such as a lack of vocabulary, anxiety, and developing techniques. These challenges were addressed through strategies like improving vocabulary, adapting voice, self-control, and seeking guidance, supported by direct and indirect learning strategies. Engaging in these contests fostered significant development in speaking skills, enhanced self-confidence, and deepened understanding of grammar and vocabulary. Moreover, storytelling contests contributed to participants' growth as EFL learners with proficient English abilities and critical thinking skills, enhancing their overall communicative competence and personal development.
