Abstract
Background: Cigarettes are addictive substances that, when used, can cause several adverse health effects. The aim of this study is to determine the proportion of schools that implement the eight evaluation indicators of smoke-free areas, as well as to assess the understanding, role of officers, and supervision regarding the smoke-free area policy. Methods: This study uses a Mixed Methods approach, with total sampling for the quantitative study consisting of 17 public high schools in Jambi City, and purposive sampling for the qualitative study involving 17 informants. Quantitative analysis is conducted using univariate descriptive analysis and the Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) as a tool for geographic information analysis and visualization, while qualitative analysis is carried out using the OpenCode application. Results: The results of the study show that the distribution of schools from 17 public high schools in Jambi City indicates that 100% do not comply with the Smoke-Free Area Policy indicators based on Regional Regulation No. 3 of 2017 in Jambi City. The school community’s understanding of Smoke-Free Areas is mostly sufficient, as they are aware of the dangers of smoking and the smoke-free area policy. However, the role of officers and supervision of Smoke-Free Areas have not been effectively carried out. Conclusion: The study results reveal that schools in Jambi City do not implement the Smoke-Free Area policy. Keywords: Compliance, Smoking Behavior, and Non-Smoking Areas.
