Abstract

This research aimed to explore the use of Perplexity AI in the thesis writing process by Master of English students at Jambi University. Utilizing a qualitative method, the study involved five participants who were selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria, namely students who were completing their thesis and had experience using Perplexity AI. The results of the interviews indicated that students considered Perplexity AI a significant tool in supporting their thesis writing process. They reported benefits in terms of gathering information, constructing theoretical frameworks, and identifying relevant research to support their literature review. Additionally, the ease of access and time efficiency provided by Perplexity AI accelerated and focused the research process. However, the study also identified several challenges, including limited internet access and high subscription costs. These findings offered valuable insights into the role of AI in higher education and served as a foundation for further research on the use of technology in academic writing.
