Abstract
Organic acids constitute chemical compounds available in the soils, and could be produced from decomposition of organic matters and plant root exudates. They are involved in chemical reactions of soil such as mineral dissolution and formation of complex compound with metals. The study was aimed to evaluate the effects of organic acids on soil chemical properties and corn yield. The pot experiment was conducted at the research farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Jambi University. The treatments used were three levels of citric acid, oxalic acid and humic acid, i.e. 0 (control), 100, 200 and 400 ppm, which were applied in pots filled with 5 kg soils (Ultisol). The treatments were arranged in a completely random block design with three replications. The results showed that organic acids could significantly decreased exchangeable Al and increased soil pH, available P, plant dry weight, plant P uptake, and corn yield. Generally, citric, oxalic and humic acids at same levels did not indicate significant difference on soil chemical properties and plant yield.
