Abstract

Research on the Effect of Using Wordless Picture Book Media on Storytelling Ability in 5-6 Year Old Children at TK IT Al-Azka Jambi City is motivated by the problem of storytelling ability in 5-6 year old children at TK IT Al-Azka Jambi City that has not developed optimally, including children who are only able to tell the main character's picture but are not yet able to interpret other detailed pictures in the storybook, children are not yet able to tell stories in a coherent manner or are still disjointed, and children are not yet able to understand the meaning or concepts in the storybook. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of using wordless picture book media on storytelling ability in 5-6 year old children at TK IT Al-Azka Jambi City, with a focus on adjusting the story to the picture, telling the picture in sequence and then linking it to their experience/imagination, composing simple sentences when telling stories, and understanding concepts in the storybook. This study uses a quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study is all 5-6 year old children at TK IT Al-Azka Jambi City, with a sample of 16 children from group B3 who were selected based on considerations of storytelling ability that is lower compared to other groups. Data collection techniques used in this study are through observation and using validated research instruments. Data analysis used in this study includes normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis test. Based on the results of the study using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, it is known that the Z value is -3.533 with a significance value (Asymp. Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05, so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The effect of using wordless picture book media can be seen from the effect size Cohen's d, which is [d = 4.41], indicating that the use of wordless picture book media has a large effect on the storytelling ability of young children. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant change between the storytelling ability of 5-6 year old children at TK IT Al-Azka Jambi City in the pre-test and post-test data.
