Abstract
Batik Melayu Jambi Seberang is one of the cultural heritages with high historical and artistic value in Jambi City. In efforts to preserve this batik, the Jambi City Tourism and Culture Office plays a crucial role through various programs and policies. Although the cultural sector primarily focuses on intangible cultural heritage, such as arts and cultural events, batik preservation is more closely related to the creative economy. Therefore, this office holds a strategic role in identifying MSME Batik Jambi entrepreneurs and encouraging youth involvement in maintaining the batik-making tradition. One concrete policy implemented is the requirement for civil servants (ASN) to wear Jambi batik every Thursday. Although not officially regulated in written laws, this policy continues to be enforced as a commitment to promoting local batik. Additionally, the Jambi City Tourism and Culture Office conducts focus group discussions (FGDs) with batik entrepreneurs to understand the challenges they face, particularly in promotion and marketing aspects. To introduce batik to younger generations, the office also utilizes the Bujang Gadis Jambi program, where cultural ambassadors are required to wear Jambi batik during official events. Moreover, the office regularly organizes training and workshops involving senior artisans to enhance skills and improve the competitiveness of the Jambi batik industry. However, preserving Batik Melayu Jambi Seberang still faces several challenges, such as limited access to raw materials, lack of technical support for artisans, and the absence of specific regulations protecting Jambi batik motifs and copyrights. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of the Jambi City Tourism and Culture Office in preserving Batik Melayu Jambi Seberang and to identify supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of existing policies. Keywords: Preservation, Batik Melayu Jambi, Government Policy, Creative Economy, Local Culture
