Abstract
Ship hijacking is a criminal act of piracy in territorial waters and threatens all users of transportation routes at sea. Ship hijacking occurs not only in the open sea but also in the narrow sea area between two islands, namely the strait. The Malacca Strait is an important transportation route for sea traffic in all fields for countries in ASEAN. Acts of piracy and sea armed robbery in the Malacca Strait are very vulnerable because Southeast Asia's shipping centre connects countries and continents. A ship hijacking case in the Malacca Strait is the 2015 hijacking of the MT Joaquim. This maritime crime has made countries in ASEAN worried about the threat of piracy and ship hijacking. ASEAN countries finally held the 12th ASEAN Summit in the Philippines and produced the ASEAN Convention on Counter-Terrorism (ACCT). This research uses juridical-normative research methods with an approach to Secondary Data in the form of legislation, international law regulations, international journals and literature data related to material that supports the discussion and problems. This research uses qualitative analysis. This research shows how analysis of the eradication of ship piracy in malacca strait based on the asean convention on counter terrorism 2007 and the results of this study indicate that countries in the ASEAN region must cooperate in combating ship hijacking in the Malacca Strait region by implementing the ASEAN Convention on Counter Terrorism in Countering Ship Hijacking in the Malacca Strait.
