Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Fractures are disruptions in bone continuity that may result in serious complications if not managed appropriately. One such condition is neglected fracture, which refers to fractures that are not promptly treated with standard medical intervention. This study aims to describe the complications occurring in patients with neglected fractures at the Orthopedic Clinic of RSUD Raden Mattaher Jambi from 2016 to 2024 Methods: This research employed a descriptive method using secondary data obtained from patient medical records. Samples were selected using a total sampling technique based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using univariat Result: The results showed that the adult age group (25–59 years) had the highest incidence of neglected fractures (52.8%), with a higher prevalence in males (67.5%). Most patients experienced closed fractures (82.1%), and the femur was the most commonly affected bone (43.1%). The most frequent complications were malunion (36.6%), followed by nonunion (33.3%), osteomyelitis (25.2%) and AVN (4,9%). Conclusion : complications in neglected fracture cases generally involve significant disturbances in bone healing. It is recommended that public awareness be improved regarding the importance of timely and proper fracture management to prevent severe complications. This study may also serve as a reference for future research and contribute to educational development in the field of orthopedics and trauma ABSTRAK Latar belakang : Fraktur atau patah tulang merupakan gangguan kontinuitas tulang yang dapat menimbulkan komplikasi serius apabila tidak ditangani dengan tepat. Salah satu kondisi yang dapat muncul akibat penanganan yang tidak adekuat adalah neglected fracture, yaitu fraktur yang tidak segera mendapatkan intervensi medis sesuai standar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan komplikasi yang terjadi pada pasien neglected fracture di Poli Orthopedi RSUD Raden Mattaher Jambi periode 2016–2024. Metode : Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan data sekunder yang diperoleh dari rekam medis pasien. Sampel diambil menggunakan teknik total sampling sebanyak 123 sampel berdasarkan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis univariat. Hasil : Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok usia dewasa (25–59 tahun) merupakan yang paling banyak mengalami neglected fracture (52,8%), dengan dominasi jenis kelamin laki-laki (67,5%). Sebagian besar pasien mengalami fraktur tertutup (82,1%) dengan lokasi terbanyak pada tulang femur (43,1%). Komplikasi yang paling sering terjadi adalah mal union (36,6%), diikuti oleh non union (33,3%) , osteomielitis (25,2%) dan AVN (4,9%). Kesimpulan: komplikasi pada pasien neglected fracture umumnya berupa gangguan penyembuhan tulang yang signifikan. Disarankan agar masyarakat meningkatkan kesadaran akan pentingnya penanganan fraktur yang tepat waktu dan sesuai standar medis guna mencegah komplikasi serius. Penelitian ini juga dapat menjadi referensi bagi penelitian lanjutan dan pengembangan pendidikan di bidang ortopedi dan trauma.
