Nurul Afnita. (2021). “The Implementation of Self-Directed Learning in Teaching and learning English at the State Senior High School: Students’ Perception.” A Thesis. Master Program of English Education, University Jambi. First Advisor Drs. Marzul Hidayat, M.A., Ph.D and Second Advisor Dr. Fortunasari, MA. Key Words: Implementation, Self-Directed Learning, Teaching and Learning English Self-directed learning (SDL) is one of the ways students develop their knowledge, skills, accomplishments, and brings to their efforts by using any method and time to learn. This research aims 1) to explain the implementation of self-directed learning (SDL) in learning English at SMAN2 Sarolangun. 2) to describe the facilitating factors of self-direction learning implementation in learning English at SMAN 2 Sarolangun. 3) to describe the inhibiting factors of self-directed learning implementation in learning English at SMAN 2 Sarolangun. It employed qualitative research with a case study approach. Three students became samples in this research. The instruments for collecting the data were observation, interviews, and documentation. The data was analyzed in three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings showed that: 1) Based on the findings, the researcher conclude the process of students' implementation of self-directed learning into four steps: Planning, Implementing, Monitoring, and Evaluating 2) Supporting factors usually come from internal and external factors of the students, they are: motivation, self-awareness, learning strategies, environment, family and technology used. 3) The inhibiting factors from Internal and external student, such as a new method, a new habit, and culture for the students. Low motivation to learn, the media used and the environment greatly affect students' concentration.
