Abstract

The aim of this research is to find the significant effects of using guided discovery learning model on students’ reading comprehension. This is a quasi-experimental research with pretest and posttest design. This research was conducted at SMP N 14 Kota Jambi. It involved two classes of eight graders as the samples, the experiment group from VIII-I class and control group from VIII-J class. The data were collected using tests that formed as multiple choice written test. Then, the results were calculated using several tests, such as prerequisite tests and t-test to find out the significance of the data comparison. The calculation from the t-test showed that tcount was lower than ttable, which means that there was no significant effect of using guided discovery learning model on students’ reading comprehension. The hypothesis that accepted is the null hypothesis (H0).
