Abstract

ABSTRACT Faridatuz Nilla,2023. An Analysis of Students’ Strategies in Learning English Vocabulary.Thesis, English Education Study Program. Faculty oTeacher Training Education of Unoversitas Jambi in the Academic Year 2022/2023. The First supervisor is Nely Arif,S.Pd. M.Pd. The second supervisor is Robi Soma, S.PD, M.PD. Key words : Vocabulary, Learning Strategies This research was conducted to find out the vocabulary learning strategies that are mostly used by students and among 63 students what strategy they use the most. In this case research, researcher used quantitative research.Researchers conducted research at SMPN 5 Muaro Jambi. The researcher used subjects in eighth grade with a total of 4 classes with 63 students. Based on the results of data processing using the SPSS 29 software program.The results is the strategies that are often used by students in learning English vocabulary are determinant and social strategies with a total of 30 students using a determinant strategy with a percentage of 46.7%. The second strategy that is often used by students in learning English vocabulary is a memory strategy. There are 23 students who use memory strategies with a percentage of 36.5%. Students who use cognitive strategies are 20 students with a percentage of 31.7%. The last strategy that is not often used by students in learning English vocabulary is a metacognitive strategy. There were 18 students who used this strategy from 63 respondents who filled out the questionnaire with a percentage of 28.6%. The conclusion in this study is that the English vocabulary learning strategy that is often used by students' there are two strategies, namely the determination strategy and the cognitive strategy with an average of 1.48, the number of students who use these strategies is 30 respondents with percentage of 46.7%. bntr
