Abstract

Raudah, Az. Z. A. 2025. EFL Students’ Perception of TED Talks as Media Learning in Listening Skills. English Education Study Program, Language and Literature Department, Faculty of Teacher Training Education of Universitas Jambi. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Dra. Rosinta Norawati, M.A. (II) Dr. Ella Masita, S.Pd., M.Pd., M.Sc. Keywords: TED Talks, EFL Students, Listening Skill, Learning Media, Perception This study entitled "EFL Students’ Perception of TED Talks as Media Learning in Listening Skill" aims to explore the perceptions of EFL students in using TED Talks as a learning medium to in their listening skills. The main purpose of this study is to what students perceptions the use of TED Talks and to identify the meaningful learning they gained, especially in relation to real-life application. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. The data were analysis through thematic analysis, involving five participants from the English Education Department, class of 2021, who had taken the "Listening and Speaking for Academic Purposes" course in the second semster. The findings indicate that TED Talks significantly influenced the students’ listening abilities. The students reported an increase in new vocabulary acquisition, particularly those they rarely encountered before. They also gained knowledge on how to deliver effective presentations using proper grammar, body language, and structured speech. Moreover, their comprehension of listening English gradually enhance. Overall, students found TED Talks to be not only engaging but also impactful in developed communication skills.
