Abstract

ABSTRACT Trivani, Retno. 2019. The Effect of Mind-Mapping on Eight Grade Sutdents Comprehension of Descriptive Text : An experimental Study at SMPN 16 Jambi. A thesis of English department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Jambi. The first supervisor is Susanah, S.Pd.,M.Sc and the second supervisor is Hustarna, S.Pd, MA. Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Mind Mapping Teacher should find out a good strategy to assist students to the text that they read in teaching reading especially in Descriptive text. It will motivate and stimulate the student to comprehend the text well. it was found that the students of Eight Grade of SMP N16 Jambi have less interest in learning English. Due the reason, the teacher was interested to applied Mind Mapping. The problem of the study was “is there any significant effect of mind-mapping technique toward Eighth Grades students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text taught in SMPN 16 Jambi?” the objective of the study was to find out the effect of using mind mapping technique on students’ reading of descriptive text at the second grade students of SMPN 16 Jambi. The method used in this research was an Experimental method. In this method a quasy-experimental was used. The populations of this research were six class of Eight grade students which were devided in two classes. Pre test was administrated to six classes before selecting two classes, while the post test score was obtained from the result of the test after six meetings of the treatment. The instrument of this research was in form of multiple choice test. The result of the analysis showed the value of T-Test (3.649) is higher than the value of T-Table (2.021). It is conducted that there was a significant effect of using Mind Mpping in teaching Reading of Descriptive text on Eight grade students comprehension of SMPN 16 Jambi. This is due to cooperation done by learners which is used maximally when they use Mind Mapping inlearning process. So, the researcher suggested to the teacher especially in SMPN 16 Jambi to use Mind Mapping in teaching reading of Descriptive text.
