Abstract

The Taman Hutan Kenali area is an area that has real benefits for life and livelihood both ecologically, socially and economically, in a balanced and dynamic manner. As an ecotourism site, Taman Hutan Kenali has provided many benefits for the local government. But in the end, a nature of tourism activities so far tends to become mass tourism activities. Therefore, optimization efforts need to be made to remain sustainable. This study aims to determine the carrying capacity of nature tourism based on the optimal number of visitors to the area and efforts to optimize it. The method used is an assessment of the effective carrying capacity developed by Cifuentes and an assessment of the perceptions of tourism actors and service facilities towards natural tourism activities in Taman Hutan Kenali. Then a SWOT analysis is performed to assess management potential and strategy and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to determine public policy strategy. The results of the assessment show that the effective carrying capacity of nature is 125 tourists per day which is higher than the actual carrying capacity (60 tourists per day). Tourists get travel satisfaction (96%) and want to return to the Taman Hutan Kenali (97%). SWOT analysis results to utilize/optimize existing potential and add tourist facilities. The results of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis show that the Taman Hutan Kenali management strategy is the cleanliness and beauty of the tourist park.
