Abstract

Increasing learning motivation by using the right method will facilitate the teaching and learning process. The problem in this research was motivated by the lack of students' ability to read English in the eighth-grade/a students at MTsN 3 Tanjung Jabung Barat. The aim of the research is to investigate students' learning motivation in eighth grade reading learning at MTsN 3 Tanjung Jabung Barat through the implementation of the mind mapping method. The type of research used is qualitative method. Data collection through observation, questionnaires, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques are data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this study showed that 20% of students did not agree with the mind mapping method, 44% of students said they agreed with the mind mapping method, while the remaining 36% said they strongly agreed with the mind mapping method. This data was obtained from filling out a questionnaire. Meanwhile, based on interviews with 5 respondents with the highest, medium and lowest scores, it was found that the mind mapping method made them motivated when learning. It can be concluded that the implementation of the mind mapping method was successful in increasing the learning motivation of eighth grade students at MTsN 3 Tanjung Jabung Barat.
