Abstract

ABSTRACT Sari, Santi Novita., 2024. The Effectiveness of Using Photo Story Media on Students’ Ability to Write Descriptive Text at the Seventh Grade of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. A Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2023/2024. The first supervisor is Tubagus Zam Zam Al-Arif, S.Pd., M.Pd. The second supervisor is Yulhenli Thabran, S.S., M.A. Keywords: Photo story media, Writing ability, Descriptive text. This research examines the effect of using photo story media on students’ ability to write descriptive texts in the seventh grade at SMP Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. The population of this research was the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Jambi, and the sample was 60 students of two classes VII G as the experimental class and VII H as the control class. The data was collected through pre-tests and post-tests in control and experimental classes. Then, the data was analyzed quantitatively. The result of the data analysis showed that the mean scores of the pre-test and post-test in the experimental class were 58.50 and 84.67, while the mean scores of the pre-test and post-test in the control class were 52.83 and 78.50. Moreover, the result of the hypothesis testing through parametric inferential statistical analysis type independent sample T-test obtained 0.002 < 0.05. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that the use of photo story media significantly affects on students’ ability to write descriptive text in the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Jambi.
