Abstract
This study aims to analyze the types and functions of code-mixing and code- switching in Cinta Laura's utterances in Helmy Yahya's talk show on YouTube. The research used descriptive qualitative method with document analysis technique. The results show that there are three types of code-mixing found based on Muysken's (2000) theory, namely 31 data in insertion, 12 data in alternation, and 25 data in congruent lexicalitation. Besides, three types of code-switching found based on Poplack's (1980) theory, namely 34 data in tag-switching, 32 data in intra- sentential switching, and 14 data in inter-sentential switching. In addition, the final findings also indicated that there are seven functions of code-mixing based on Marasigan's (1983) theory, namely four data in quotation, one data in addressee specification, three data in repetition, four data in interjection, twi data in message qualification, three data in personalization versus objectivization, and 51 data in facility of expression. Moreover, six functions of code-switching found based on Gumperz's (1982), namely six data in quotation, seven data in addressee specification, two data in reiteration, 35 data in interjection, 15 data in message qualification, and 15 data in personalization versus objectivization. In analyzing the data, the researcher focused on the word form only. Therefore, focus on the accent or dialect used by the speaker in the next studies are required.
