Abstract

Language is not only used for communication but also for help people to tie the social relationship. Both speaker and hearer must fulfill the cooperative principle when they manage to achieve a successful communication. In this digital era there are so many ways to communication, one of them is through meme which is very well known in social media and internet. But, in many cases there are so many memes which are not observance with the maxim that actually should be fulfilled to achieve a successful communication. This study tries to find what kind of non observance that occur in memes and also what types of maxim which is non observance in memes. This study use famous memes which are exist in internet and social media during a month and did flouting and violating only. The result of this study expected to provide some information about grice maxim and using memes as one of learning material in discourse analysis subject.
