Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan pada artefak batu paleolitik yang ditemukan di Kawasan Logas, Kabupaten Kuantan Singingi, Provinsi Riau. Melalui temuan artefak tersebut dirumuskan dugaan bahwa pada masa lalu pernah ada aktivitas manusia prasejarah di situs Logas. Berangkat dari dugaan tersebut maka penelitian bertujuan untuk menjelaskan tahapan proses yang terjadi selama pembuatan artefak batu Logas dilakukan, termasuk bagaimana manusia pendukungnya memilih serta memproses sebuah bahan baku. Dari temuan artefak batu yang ada ditentukan dua puluh tiga artefak sebagai sampel penelitian. Untuk mencapai tujuan yang dimaksud digunakan model chaîne opératoire yang diusulkan oleh André Leroi-Gourhan seorang antropolog Perancis. Model ini dilakukan untuk menguraikan setiap tahapan yang terjadi dalam pembuatan artefak batu, dengan cara melakukan analisis atribut dan teknik pengerjaan alat batu yang diterapkan sehingga didapatkan pemahaman yang terstruktur. Melalui model chaîne opératoire ini, dapat diketahui proses pembuatan artefak batu paleolitik di Logas secara berurutan. Kesimpulan yang didapatkan dari hasil analisis tersebut yakni terdapat pola perilaku masyarakat atau individu di Logas yang terlihat dari pemilihan bahan baku batu pasir yang digunakan untuk dijadikan alat, serta penerapan teknik hand held percussion pada setiap proses pembuatan artefak paleolitik. This research was conducted on paleolithic artifacts found at Logas, Kuantan Singingi, Riau. The findings of these artifacts indicated that there were human activities occurred in the past. In relation to the assumption, this research is carried out with the purpose to explain the stages that occurred during the manufacture of the artifacts, including how humans select and process the raw materials. To achieve the research objectives, twenty-three artifacts were chosen as research samples which then analysed through chaîne opératoire model of Andre Leroi-Gourhan. Through this model each stage that occurs in the manufacture of stone artifacts will be elaborated, specifically by analysing the stone artifacts attributes and identifying the techniques applied to make the tools. The artifacts production sequence would be then explained. The result of this analysis shows that there are specific patterns of human behavior in Logas, first pattern can be seen in their selection of sandstone as the preferred raw material for tool-making, and the second one is the preference of the hand held percussion technique during the production of paleolithic artifacts.
