Abstract
Fajria, Nurul. 2020. A Study of Students’ Perception of English Creative Writing Using the Weblog. A Thesis of English Education Study Progam, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Universitas Jambi in Academic Year 2019/2020. The first supervisor is Yanto, S.Pd., M.Ed. The second supervisor is Tubagus Zam Zam Al Arif, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: Perception, Writing, Creative Writing, Weblog, Digital Fluency. Nowadays, weblogs are used for students as media to post their writings. This research aimed to understand the use of weblogs in creative writing class. The research questions of this study were: First, what are the students’ perception of English creative writing using weblogs. Second, how does using weblogs help the students in improving their writing, reading, and other skills. Third, what are the advantages and barriers in using weblogs in English creative writing subject. This study used mixed-methods design, in which the data were collected through an online questionnaire and interview. The participants of this study were the students of Introduction to Creative Writing subject in 2019. The result of the study showed that students’ perception of writing on the weblog is positive and proven to improve their writing and reading skills. The result also showed the confidence and motivation in writing for the public environment also increased. The weblog delivered most positive aspects in vocabulary. Besides its benefits, some students still had difficulties in writing using the weblog, such as internet connection problem. Although the use of this technology in improving teaching and learning in writing claimed beneficial, teachers still need to guide the students to use the weblog, and the students need to enhance the display and quality of their content in weblogs so that readers are more interested to read their writing.
