Abstract

Wijaya, S. M. (2023). The use of Podcast as media for listening: An experimental research at University of Jambi. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Jambi Academic Year 2023/2024, English Study Program. First Supervisors, Dr. Dra. Rosinta Norawati, M.A. Second Supervisors, Dr. Nyimas Triyana Safitri, S.Pd., M.Ed, St Keywords: Podcast, Listening. The objective of this research is to determine whether there were significant differences in the listening comprehensions of students before and after they were taught using podcast media, as well as in their experiences using podcast as a learning tool for listening. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was use by the researcher. The participants in this study were second-semester English Study Program students at Jambi University for the academic year 2023– 2024. One class consist 25 students was used the research sample in this study. The results of the pre-test and post-test revealed that there is a significant difference in students listening comprehension score before and after being taught using media podcast. Before using podcasts to teach them, students took a listening pre-test, and getting overall mean score of 47.84. Following treatment, students' overall mean scores on the post-test in listening test increased by 71.20. After done with the post- test, the students’ given a questionnaire to know their experience after using podcast as media for learning listening. From the test result, it conclude that students' listening comprehension can be enhanced by using podcast media. Furthermore, from students’ perceptions and personal experiences, the majority of students according to the questionnaire results, feel that podcasts help them improve their listening comprehension. Researcher came to the conclusion that podcasts do indeed improve students' listening comprehension.
